{"id":29816,"date":"2024-09-07T19:22:34","date_gmt":"2024-09-07T19:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alanlodge.co.uk\/blog\/?p=29816"},"modified":"2024-09-17T08:52:34","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T08:52:34","slug":"bbc-report-free-grassroots-festival-returns-to-nottingham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alanlodge.co.uk\/blog\/archives\/29816","title":{"rendered":"BBC Report : Free &#8216;grassroots&#8217; festival returns to Nottingham"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Asha Patel  BBC News, Nottingham<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>7 September 2024, 07:25 BST<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A free festival promoting ways to live more sustainably is returning for its 31st year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nottingham&#8217;s Green Festival will take place at the city&#8217;s Arboretum on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual event, which involves food stalls, crafts and other activities, was initially known as the Peace Festival when it was first staged in 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organisers say they expect &#8220;about 2,000 people&#8221; to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Peace Festival was launched by a group of activists and used to take place at The Embankment, Nottingham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adam Smith, a spokesperson for the festival said, over time, the organisers&#8217; &#8220;social priorities changed&#8221; and the event focused on sustainable living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8220;grassroots, volunteer-led&#8221; event will include food stalls, local businesses, lectures, children&#8217;s games and crafts, Mr Smith said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s so important that festivals like this remain accessible to everyone and that&#8217;s why we&#8217;ve moved to the Arboretum, so it&#8217;s available by public transport,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;So again, that&#8217;s another way we&#8217;ve managed to lower the carbon emissions of even running the festival,&#8221; Mr Smith added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/665\/cpsprodpb\/0fca\/live\/c5be8d80-6b75-11ef-91f9-250beb868bcc.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Nottingham Green Festival \"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image caption,The festival will include stalls from local businesses, organisers said<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Organisers hope keeping the festival free will also allow families to enjoy a day out during the &#8220;ongoing cost of living crisis&#8221; and help to share their message further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Smith added that the event addressed the topic of a sustainability in a &#8220;fun and entertaining way&#8221;, showcasing how people might impact the environment in ways they were &#8220;not aware of&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival, which is independently funded through fundraising, will run from 12:00 BST to 18:00 on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cj083290g6zo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cj083290g6zo<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Asha Patel BBC News, Nottingham A free festival promoting ways to live more sustainably is returning for its 31st year.
