{"id":5685,"date":"2022-02-10T21:19:33","date_gmt":"2022-02-10T21:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alanlodge.co.uk\/blog\/?p=5685"},"modified":"2022-02-11T23:27:54","modified_gmt":"2022-02-11T23:27:54","slug":"gerrard-winstanley-a-hero-of-mine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alanlodge.co.uk\/blog\/archives\/5685","title":{"rendered":"Gerrard Winstanley &#8211; a hero of mine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>\u201cEngland is not a free people, till the poor that have no land, have a free allowance to dig and labour the commons\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So says Gerrard Winstanley a leader of the Diggers, &nbsp;in 1649.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At the end of the English Civil War, people began to realise that after their sacrifice in fighting that war, they had replaced one bunch of uncaring bastards with another lot<br>\u2026. &nbsp;well, &nbsp;that\u2019s politics and war for you, nothing new there then!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I see many parallels with today. The people pitched against an unrepresentative state and aristocracy. The Church acting rather like the present day multinationals, and a lot of people who just wanted to be left alone, without interference from church or state, on land that they respected and loved.
