Critics say journalism on the left has become turgid and earnest so does it have to lighten up and be more entertaining?
And, whatever happened to the underground press? In the 60’s and 70’s it offered an alternative outlet, a more authentic voice for the concerns and mood of the youth movement than the mass media, and the range of publications was formidable.
But is today’s so-called alternative press – with its focus on music, fashion and design – a pale shadow of its underground forebears from the sixties and seventies?
