World Heritage Site threatened by roadbuilding scheme!

One of the world’s most famous heritage sites, Stonehenge, is threatened by a massive and highly destructive road-building scheme:

The British Government’s Department for Transport is planning to widen the A303 highway that runs close to the monument.

The result will effectively be the “M303”: a four-lane dual carriageway from London to the West Country cutting right through the heart of the Stonehenge World Heritage Site.

Only the central 2km (1 mile) of the new road nearest to the henge would be placed in a tunnel. Outside the tunnel, two thirds of the World Heritage Site would be permanently divided by two noisy and unsightly dual carriageways (four-lane highways), securely fenced and with long cuttings leading down to tunnel entrances, lit day and night.

The stone circle will not be harmed, but its landscape setting will be badly damaged and other important archaeological remains will be destroyed.

The road would have major ecological impacts.

Currently we think this is the most likely.

We will activate a phone tree to get as many people as possible out early the next morning on the main routes into Nottingham, to display placards, drop banners from the bridges and leaflet the traffic.

Plans for this are being coordinated on the web site http://www.nottmagainstwar.org.uk

We will encourage people to do what they can during that day, whether at work, college, school, or where they live.

Then go to the Market Square as soon as you can after work. Assemble from 5:00pm for the rally.

If it starts late at night, early morning or during the day

Go to the Market Square as soon as you can after work.

People will start assembling there from 5:00pm.

We will have a rally and make plans for the following morning

National Demonstration

The Stop the War Coalition are going to call a national demonstration in London on the first weekend after the start of hostilities. We will rush to get transport arranged from Nottingham.

The best way to keep in touch with what we are doing is to visit the website http://www.nottmagainstwar.org.uk regularly, and get yourself onto our email list, but we do understand that not everyone can do this, and we will try to keep in touch over the phone.

Chetwynd Barracks, at Chilwell, near Nottingham, is the national mobilisation centre for the TA and reservists. It is where they are being trained, equipped and receiving medical treatment and innoculations prior to being sent to the Gulf. It has already been the focus of several local actions, and we are now calling a regional/national action on Saturday March 15th. There will be a rally in Beeston Square followed by a march to Chilwell Main Gate, where there will be a picket, street theatre and the opportunity for non-violent direct action and “citizens weapons inspections” to take place. Menwith Hill, Yorkshire. Transport from Manchester. A day of peaceful creative direct action, music, speakers and a tour at the US military base Menwith Hill would play a crucial role in any war on Iraq. As the largest electronic monitoring station in the world it picks up communications from satellites covering the Middle East – it even won an award for its eavesdropping in the last Gulf War. It is the ‘brains’ of any attack on Iraq. Menwith is also a key base for the project of long-term military aggression – ‘Star Wars’. To ‘foil the base’ (disrupt satellite signals at the base) there has to be as much foil in the air as possible. Bring foil kites, foil balloons, foil puppets; use your imagination! Make your demonstrations visible at the real heart of the military machine; if only a fraction of the people marching in London take action at military bases the war will become unworkable.

· Police have begun to use Section 60 powers to stop and search protesters at Fairford. A Section 60 gives uniformed police the power to cordon a group of people, search for supposed weapons, and confiscate items that conceal your identity (masks, balaclavas, etc.) If you are stopped under s60, ask who authorised it and what locality it covers. You DO NOT have to give the police your name and address or answer any other questions. If asked anything, it’s always advisable to answer NO COMMENT to all questions. They cannot use force to take your photo. And if they do search you (which unfortunately s60 gives them the power to do), ask the officer for their name, number and station. I am sorry to cause any offence, it was not my intention.

I have only just learned how to stream video work, and though I would put it up for view. [been there from just before xams]

a) because I’m proud of my contribution to it

b) have for years been involved in the welfare and help at such events and thought it a contribution to this debate.

The image size is 320×240 and as so, is hardly viewable with any quality. I thus didn’t think that because of this, and the above points that I would be treading on anyone toes.

Now you have explained that I am. I apologise and will remove if you wish.

All I would ask, is that you realise that my motive was not theft, but information on these issues.

I accept that your motives were honourable, but I would warn you that you are on VERY shaky ground with all these OTHER clips, too!

My company acts as copyright consultants and content providers for many publishers and broadcasters, and I can assure you that most companies will definitely not take any educational value or goodwill or public-spiritedness or the pixel dimensions of the image into account when judging breaches of copyright. This is a terribly sensitive area, with Napster being just one small but well-known pawn in the game! I know you mean well, but please be warned!

So, there you have it! Because people do it to me, I know a little of copyright, use of work etc….. and I know that legally, I was plain and simply wrong. BUT really, a 320×240 bearly visable video, and when you thing about the motivation and the subject matter, boody heck!! and I contributed quite a few pictures to the film, you thus would think his attitude be different. But legally, I’m wrong. Something needs looking at here. Legal / moral / use / digital :: ::

American US spy planes landed today at RAF Fairford, near Oxford. Peace activists have set up camp expecting B52 Bombers to arrive tonight around midnight.

Police have dismantled protesters tents but the activists are standing firm to witness the arrival of Bush’s bombers.

The B2 nuclear capability stealth bombers are also expected at the base.

Junkateer – A popular beat combo!

Formed a year and half ago from the bloated corpses of various underground bands like Magoo, Supercharger and the tragically under-achieving IDIOT JOY, JUNKATEER are a band with many sources and many influences. From dirty deep house (members have releases on Drop, Bolshi and Rubberneck to name but a few) to Beefheart and the Velvets to Dub, Free Jazz, Disco, blah blah blah…all used to create their raw, experimental groove. Currently embarking on a string of dates in London, Bristol, Nottingham, Manchester and festivals throughout 2002.

I’m one of the man’s greatest fans. I like so much of the different styles he’s produced. He is famous for imperial ‘the king is great’ type music, but i think some of these are soo sensitive. I put them on my server to share here.
